On October 4th, 2011, TroopSwap began operations in the San Diego area. This new website
provides military discounts to veterans, active duty service members, and their direct family
members (dependents). As the first e-commerce platform designed exclusively for the military
community, TroopSwap enhances the traditional military discount model. It does so by
presenting promotional offers to TroopSwap members in a daily deal format.
Troopswap was founded by two former Army Rangers and Harvard Business School Alumni,
Blake Hall and Matthew Thompson and debuted in Hampton Roads, Virginia on May 23rd, 2011.
Since then, the membership rolls have swelled to over 20,000.
In San Diego, the team consists of eight military spouses and is led by Matthew Thompson.
Looking for pro-military businesses who want help TroopSwap further the company mission to
reward a life of a service. Thanks to the company’s policy of hiring military spouses, TroopSwap
was inducted into the Military Spouse Employment Partnership at the Association of the United
States Army (AUSA) conference on October 10, 2011.
TroopSwap further supports the military community by giving 10% of the company’s profits to
the Wounded Warrior Project.
Some of the well-known investors backing TroopSwap include: Marty Abbott, former Army Officer and CTO of eBay, Paige Craig, former Marine and Founder/CEO of Betterworks.com, Frank Monestere, former Green Beret and current President/COO of LegalZoom.com, and Kelly Perdew, former Army Ranger, winner of Season 2 of NBC’s The Apprentice, and CEO of FastPointGames.com.
