Getting color into my dining room wasn’t the easiest thing to accomplish. Mainly because it’s not really a “room,” it’s a square area at the end of our living space with linoleum floors and a sliding glass door leading out to the backyard.
So if you’re keeping track, that leaves me with yet another plain white space, except this time I’ve got just two walls to work with instead of four. Basically the lack of walls in our “open” floor plan means the dining area can be seen from our family room AND kitchen so I had to make sure the colors I use worked with the color in the rest of the visible living space.
What I came up with isn’t splashy or bright, but it carries just a touch of red from our family room through to the dining area, and I LOVE it!
These six prints represent the six places we’ve been stationed since we were married in 2002. Thankfully we’ve been here in San Diego twice so it made for an even number! They were designed and printed in neutral colors by a fabulous etsy seller. (hooray for handmade!) Then I found some frames that coordinated well with my ridiculous supply of wine corks and finally brought in the red I wanted with the matting.
By purchasing neutral prints I’ll be able to hang this art wherever we go. I can make them work in any room just by changing out the matting and frames. Matting is so inexpensive, and if I manage to buy the frames during the Aaron Brothers “One Cent Sale” like I did this time, it’ll be an inexpensive fix.
If you’re in need of a frame change, The Aaron Brothers “Buy One Get One for One Cent Sale” is going on now!

I love this idea! We’ve lived in 4 different states, and my husband was also stationed in Okinawa. I already have a theme in my kitchen/dining room, but I’m really wanting to find a place in my house to do this. Maybe the living room.
Perfect for military families who move a lot. Brilliant idea!
what a great idea…love it!
