As a military wife, it’s easy to completely consume yourself in the military life. I have, and I’ve talked before about how easy it is to ‘lose yourself‘ in this life. But we have to remember, that we are MORE than just military wives. We are more than just mothers. We are woman (or men if you’re one of my guy readers). We have our own personal likes, and passions. This isn’t just the case for military wives, either. Women/men/parents : we get so wrapped up into being that spouse, parent, hard worker… that we forget to take care of ourselves; stay connected to who we are.
And this is one of the things I wanted to focus on when deciding to stay and keep writing on Semper Fi Momma. It’s important to take care of ourselves, as well as those around us. Unfortunately it’s just too easy to put our own needs on the back burner. Often, when I find I’m feeling my anxieties on constant red alert, or minor stresses getting the best of me easier than they normally should, I realize that my personal reserves are empty. I need to refresh and recharge, and do a little something for me. But why wait until I’m at the near end of my rope? If I pledge to continually do little things, for me, throughout the week then I should never let myself get to the end of my rope. I’ll have done something for ME, which I know I need to do to keep me connected with who I am.
So each Monday (i know today is tuesday but i just couldn’t wait until next week to start this!!) I will write 5 things that I pledge to do FOR ME! And I want YOU to join me!!
- Link up! – write your 5 things you’ll be doing for YOU and link up with me!
- Follow and look for the #5Things4Me hashtag. Share pics of what you’re doing through the week!
Alright, so what am I doing for ME this week? I pledge to:
- paint my nails – something I love doing and RARELY do
- start on my children’s book series
- get back into yoga
- read for no less than 15 minutes, three days this week
- treat myself to a latte
See? Basic enough, but still very important to me. Little things that will keep me on track with my personal goals, keep me refreshed, and keep me connected.
