#5Things4Me – week 2

#5things4meLast week I introduced #5Things4Me, my weekly link up where I, and whoever else wants to join me (hopefully YOU), pledge to do 5 very simple things each week that are just for me.
Selfish? NO! We are parents. We are spouses. We are friends. We give and give and rarely stop to give to ourselves. Yet, it’s so important! When we take care of ourselves, we in turn are better parents to our children, and better wives/husbands to our spouses. It’s literally a full circle of positive energy, should you just take the moment to do something SIMPLE for yourself.

This week my son heads back to school. I’m both sad and excited for this. Sad, because summer is over. Morning lazy cuddles are now limited to Saturdays and Sundays. And though my body detests and tries to reject mornings, I’ll be up and at’em on a regular basis now. Excited because this affords me the opportunity to work more with my girls, one on one, on various activities that will get them prepped for preschool and kindergarten. I did the same with my son, and let me tell you it was a lot easier with just one child. So I need this time to concentrate on my girls. Plus, I know within the next 6 months we’ll be moving, and I know how fast that will go by. So, starting this week, I’m going to work on purging different areas of the house. My schedule is starting to fill up, and with that it’s becoming more apparent to me of why I need to make sure I get some ‘me time’ in this week.

So what am I doing for myself this week?

Here’s my list of 5:

  1. going on a walk (around the lake) by myself
  2. reading 3 chapters from the book I’m currently reading
  3. getting back into yoga (yeah…. this one didn’t happen last week. but i’m not giving up!)
  4. setting aside some girl chat time
  5. setting my alarm to go off 15 minutes early so I can enjoy a quiet up of coffee

See? Easy enough. And I was surprised that I actually accomplished most of the things on my list last week. Yoga was the only one that didn’t happen. Painting my nails was one of the first things I did, and wouldn’t you know that a couple days later . No biggie, though. I love painting my nails and enjoyed having them all prettied up while it lasted.

    Great idea. I don’t do much for myself lately but what I *should* be doing is exercising. Instead I am getting all my articles written in lieu of exercising so I can take a big fat vacation for the rest of summer. Trade-off!

      I need to get back into the habit of working out as well. Or just start working out… not really sure there was really ever a solid habit there. My workouts usually start when school does. I’m down one less child, and it’s amazing how much that actually helps. But… I do love your trade-off!

    The top priority for me this week is to get my A/C fixed in my car so that I can drive back to San Diego from Phoenix in comfort without sweat pouring from each and every pore. Ugh.

    I will have to think about the other 4 things I’m doing for myself.

      Oh my!! AC in the car is a MUST!! And you’re currently in Phoenix?? I hope you do get it fixed, very soon.
