I’m going to admit to you, last week was almost a complete fail. Almost.
While I did exercise every day, I did NOT kick it up a notch as I had hoped. Yoga didn’t happen, not even once, last week.
Face time with a gal pal? YES!!!
Reading? Well, not my book but I did flip pages through a magazine, and though that wasn’t my goal I AM going to count that as a little me time.
Nails didn’t get pained until Saturday, but they did get done so that’s a win. And the detox bath happened Friday morning, which is a win + bonus; my Mr. has a 96 for the holiday weekend and was home Friday.
As I said in my 5Things4Me post last week, this is all OK, and exactly my point and drive behind my crusade. Is it slightly discouraging to see that items on my list I had hoped to happen in fact didn’t? Sure. But that’s not going to stop me. It just gives me proof that we moms get easily carried away by life, and we need to make it a weekly priority to make sure we put ourselves at the top of our ‘to do’ lists a few times.
So anyhoo… last week. What kept me so busy? Frankly, I’m not even sure I remember. geez We had two early releases at my sons school, for Open House, and for some reason those days always throw me off. The one highlight I can tell you about the week, as far as my list is concerned, is that face time with a friend. Monday I met my girlfriend (The Young Retiree) at Lake O’Neill. We’re both trying to make fitness a priority in our lives, she being way more successful at it than I am, and met to walk around the entire lake. One full lap is somewhere between 2.6 and 3 miles. I’m not exactly sure, because when we finished, although we both have the same app/gps our mileages were different. Go figure. At any rate, it’s a good distance. We got in a little jogging, pounded out some power walking, and talked. And talked. AND. TALKED!! It felt so good to have some real live girl time. Not just a phone conversation, or a FB interaction. The real deal. There’s just something about having that real-time, face-to-face, physical connection that is so rejuvenating to the soul. That, combined with the exercise, gave me a bit of a high that lasted into the next day. I’m looking forward to doing it again this week.
And again, even though I didn’t accomplish EVERYTHING, the fact I made SOME of the things happen is still a good accomplishment. Each week I’m feeling more and more positive about my accomplishments in the days ahead.
So here’s what I’ve got on the docket for this week:
- Cleaning day on Monday. I know. Don’t look at me (or this post) like I’m crazy. I want to do some major scrambling and get this house whipped up in one day, so the rest of my week is free to enjoy. At least sans chores.
- READ! I’m not going to say ‘finish the book’, I may have overshot there. But I’d like to just do some reading.
- Drink more water – no less than 6 big cups a day. Why is this so hard for me? Dumb, right? But it is, and I KNOW I feel so much better when I’m fully hydrated. I MUST stop what I’m doing during the day long enough to make getting down 10 to 12oz at a time a bigger priority.
- Yoga. I’m still dreaming about my yoga at home two weeks ago. I enjoyed it. Loved it! I need it.
- Treat myself to a Pumpkin Spiced Latte.
What are you doing for yourself this week? I really hope that you’ll join me, and challenge yourself to do 5 things for you. Doing a little something nice for yourself really goes a long way. So think of 5 (simple) things to do for yourself this week, and then come back and link up your post! Remember, sharing is caring – please try and make it to some of the other bloggers’ posts who have linked up before or after you.
I’d love to get some ideas from you and have them here in the comments to share with others. What is one of the things on your list to do for YOU this week?
I hear ya on the water. It makes me feel terrible when 1/2 the world struggles to get their basic water needs met everyday and here I am ignoring the clear liquid gold that flows from my tap because….I don’t like it. Crazy when it’s put that way.
well, and the goofy part, for me, is that I LOVE WATER! I just don’t take the time to stop and drink it. (how horrible does that sound, that I have to force myself to stop and take time to hydrate???)
